Hey there, explorers! Santiago de Compostela is a city packed with history, beauty, and charm, and there’s so much to see and do that I can’t wait to share my top five favorite activities and places with you. Whether you’re here for a pilgrimage or just to enjoy the city’s incredible atmosphere, Santiago has something for everyone. Here’s what you shouldn’t miss:

  1. Marvel at the Santiago Cathedral
Visiting the Santiago Cathedral is an absolute must. This stunning piece of architecture is the endpoint of the famous Camino de Santiago, and seeing it in person is even more breathtaking than you’d imagine. Don’t forget to visit the crypt and the Botafumeiro—an enormous incense burner swung during mass for a truly unique experience.
  2. Wander Through the Old Town
Santiago’s old town is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and it’s easy to see why. With cobbled streets, charming squares, and beautiful old buildings, walking here feels like stepping back in time. Take your time to explore Praza do Obradoiro, Praza da Quintana, and all the little alleys lined with boutiques and cafés.
  3. Relax in the Alameda Park
Just a short walk from the old town, Alameda Park is a peaceful green oasis with amazing views of the city and the cathedral. You’ll find locals strolling, artists sketching, and visitors snapping photos. It’s the perfect spot to relax and take in the sights (and maybe enjoy a picnic if the weather’s nice!).
  4. Explore the Mercado de Abastos
The Mercado de Abastos is the place to experience Galicia’s vibrant food scene. From fresh seafood to cheeses and local wines, this market has it all. If you’re a foodie like me, you’ll love browsing the stalls and maybe grabbing a bite or two. It’s also a great spot for picking up unique, edible souvenirs.
  5. Take a Day Trip to Finisterre
Known as the “end of the world” in ancient times, Finisterre is a coastal town with dramatic cliffs and beautiful views of the Atlantic. Many pilgrims continue here after Santiago for a final reflection, and it’s a stunning place to unwind, especially at sunset.

These spots offer the best of Santiago, from history and nature to food and relaxation. Ready to start planning your adventure? Click on the images below to visit my website, where I’ve included photos, videos, and more details to help you explore Santiago de Compostela like a pro!
